The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 在大荧幕看4:3的黑白电影，十分魔幻。全片简直像把舞台剧拍成电影，摄影很美，黑与白之间的层次感把握得好，构图出彩。然而对白基本上没听懂，文言文一样，完全没想到这么艰涩。

4:3黑白近距人像的复古模式，反而让这种舞台剧更增添了些许魔幻感，故事平淡，名角加持还不算难看
如果剥去了莎翁的名号，这也就是一个普通的寓言故事，如果再除去科恩卖力表现的镜头，这也就是个一无是处的寓言故事
丹泽尔华盛顿演得确实是不太行……灯光真漂亮，女巫那几场戏非常好。
蛮好的，只是没想到还真就是麦克白，这一点很不科恩。
极简舞台风格 光影是亮点 但整体的风格化甚至不如15年库泽尔那部《麦克白》 表演上科恩嫂比华盛顿表现的好 当然 还是跟人物角色有关 麦克白夫人的确是这个故事中最有趣的存在

很意外的是居然用表现主义拍麦克白，抛开别的不说，但就这个打光和摄影就值回票价 3.5
麦克白和其夫人看起来极其mentally healthy，半点鬼胎也不怀，整部电影看完怕是能得出黑人因为种族歧视才当不上国王的结论
原想会是又一部让人哈欠不断的电影，其实不然，整个电影的节奏出奇的好，莎士比亚的台词基础太好。导演和A24的合作很风格化，除此之外，看到了词条里15年法鲨主演的麦克白，大概现在改变这类文学作品都得向着极端风格化改编吧，这样一对比创意成分倒是没有那么加分了
